In 2003, I had a insight that changed the course of my life.
I was an analyst and portfolio manager, living in New York, and that year, I decided to run the New York marathon.
I worked long hours and often travelled for my work so I had some reservations about the time commitment involved but committed nonetheless.
What transpired completely shocked me. I had more energy, was more emotionally resilient and was much more mentally sharp than I had ever been. Much to my surprise, my productivity took a quantum leap.
I came to appreciate that I had much more control over my energy levels, my emotional state and my mental clarity than I had ever appreciated.
And that was a gamechanger for me. It changed how I looked at myself and how I lived my life.
It also changed how I looked at my investments. Why did managers that looked so similar on paper achieve such different outcomes? Some not really achieving their potential while others excelled beyond what anyone thought possible. I began to wonder if it was the internal state of the managers that was the difference?
The more I learned, the more convinced I became that technical skill was not the differentiator; mostly, the managers were getting in their own way. I decided to retire from finance and retrain as an executive coach so that I could devote myself to understanding this.
Twenty years on, having spent years exploring the most cutting edge, far reaching (and far out there!) techniques available to us, I have no doubt that my suspicions were well founded. I understand so much more about the relationship between the body and mind, the conscious and the unconscious, which when put into practice, are completely transformative for human performance and productivity, without any need to train for or run marathons!
I am passionate about sharing what I’ve learned so others can live their true potential and create a life that brings them health, happiness and fulfilment.
